At Square Enix’s VanaFest 2012, an event held in Yokohama, Japan celebrating the 10th anniversary of their first online Final Fantasy, the company officially revealed the 5th and latest expansion for the title, Seekers of Adoulin. The expansion will see the addition of a two new jobs, the Geomancer and the Rune Fencer, as well as new locations and storylines.

Final Fantasy XI was first released for the PS2 in Japan in 2002, but it was only in 2003 that North America saw its first version of the Final Fantasy MMO on PCs, making 2013 the 10th anniversary for the title in the west. At VanaFest, it was revealed by Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada that Final Fantasy XI has been the most profitable Final Fantasy title to date, and the total play time for all current users adds up to over 200,000 years worth of adventuring.

Seekers of Adoulin will come out sometime in 2013 as a retail title for the Xbox 360 and download for Windows in North America and Europe. It will also release on PlayStation 2 in Japan.


It may be an expansion of an existing game, and even though it appears that the PS2 version may be exclusive to Japan (as the only platforms announced for the new expansion pack for North America and Europe are PC and Xbox 360), it's interesting to think that new online content will be releasing for the PS2 in 2013.

The PS2 probably has a higher install base of Japanese players, which is why they are continuing to patch it on PS2 and give it that expansion. For all you know it might even come to US PS2 as a DL or something idk.

It's not as strange when you consider it's also crossplat with PC and 360, and is still bringing in money on at least both those.

Unfortunately, no; you have to pay $12.95 per month. I've heard that you get the first two weeks of online play are free, though.

1. No, you gotta pay with credit card.
2. You need either a PS2 with a legit sony HDD or a BC ps3.
