URLs of SOCOM patches

Post by Masquarr »

SOCOM II patch:
http://updates.pdonline.scea.com/_socom ... ACHE00.ZDB

I found that URL by looking at a packet log of SOCOM II that I made a few months ago. Favrenation gave me the idea to go through the log and look for HTTP packets!

More to come.

I found the URL of the SOCOM II patch by using Wireshark to log the packets that were being transmitted. I found an HTTP request asking for /_socom2-prod/currentpatch/APACHE00.ZDB . (This was right after the PS2 sent a DNS query for updates.pdonline.scea.com.) That was how I figured out the URL.)

I tried to use that same method to find the URL at which the SOCOM 3 patch is being hosted, but for some reason it didn't work. The only HTTP packet I found was a response from the remote server, which didn't seem to have any information about the domain name. The PS2 only seemed to be submitting miscellaneous TCP packets beforehand. I think it might have to do with the problem discussed in this thread: http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/forum/vi ... atch#p6325

I really wish that someone had presented this idea much earlier. We might've been able to preserve patches for Star Wars Battlefront and/or Killzone in this way. (I do have the latest Killzone patch on my memory cards, but they have anti-copying protection. The files don't get "locked" until after they are downloaded to the PS2. The SWBF patch is also locked in such a way.)

Thank you very much for posting that link, Dominator94-. Say, did I see you discussing online Playstation 2 games at the official PSN forum a few months ago? Your username sounds familiar, but I'm not able to verify that it's the same as the one I saw, because Sony seems to have recently deleted every post that has ever been made in the Playstation 1/2 General Discussion subforum since 2002.

How did you obtain the Javascript files? At what URLs are they located? Would it be possible to use the javascript files to set up patch distribution servers for those games in the future?
