I got a slim ps2 and all i know is that i need a hdd for it, and correct if im wrong but a hdd only works on the non-slim p2, is that right?

That is correct. You will need an original model PS2 and a Network Adapter to use a HDD.

You could use an external drive on a slim as I do. There is also some complicated soldering job to use an internal one, but my external works just fine.

If you want to play HDD capable games like FF11, you need a phat PS2 and legit Sony HDD. And even then, you could just get it on PC and play with people on PS2 and Xbox.
