Crash 'N' Burn - And Why You Should Consider Giving It A Try

Crash 'N' Burn is a racing game released for PS2 and Xbox from the developer, Climax Group. Climax is no stranger to PS2 online racing games, having also developed Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Challenge, ATV Offroad Fury 3 and ATV Offroad Fury 4. As a matter of fact, Climax Group released ATV Offroad Fury 3, Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Challenge and Crash 'N' Burn all within a span of two weeks in November 2004!

When Crash 'N' Burn released in Fall 2004, it was directly competing with and often compared to Burnout 3: Takedown. While Crash 'N' Burn became overshadowed by the Burnout series, it still manages to stands on its own as a feature-packed online arcade racer. Probably the most overlooked feature of this game is this:

Crash 'N' Burn Supports Online Bots!
Crash 'N' Burn was the first ever driving game to provide online support for up to 16 players.

Like Tribes: Aerial Assault and Jak X: Combat Racing, Crash 'N' Burn is one of the few PS2 online games that fully supports online bots in all of its multiplayer modes!

Only have two players? Fill the rest of your game up with 14 other bots. Playing online by yourself? Host and play a game with 15 other bot racers while you wait for someone to join your game. The action is never dull with full 16 player lobbies, no matter how many people join your online games.

Compete in multiplayer destruction with or against 16 total players online featuring a variety of modes:

  • Race - Player chooses a location and track, and races opponents to cross the finish line after a set number of laps.
  • Team Race - Red and Blue teams are organized at random. Same as a regular race, but whichever team places higher overall collectively wins.
  • Kamikaze - Same as a regular race, except that half of the cars go in one direction around the track, and the other half goes the opposite direction.
  • Team Kamikaze - Same as Kamikaze race, with the scoring of a regular team race.
  • Running Man - Points are gained by being the "running man." Whoever is the running man must evade opponents for as long as possible. If a player tags the running man, they begin to gain points, and must evade opponents themselves.
  • Last Man Standing - All players must attempt to stay alive while wrecking as many opponents as possible. Points are gained through wrecking opponents, and a large bonus is awarded to the last player alive. The player with the most points wins.
  • Team Last Man Standing - Red and blue teams fight each other in the same fashion. The surviving team collectively wins.
  • Bomb Tag - A player is randomly selected to carry the bomb, which is continuously counting down. This player must tag an opponent and be rid of the bomb before the timer hits 0. When an opponent is carrying the bomb when it hits 0, they are instantly destroyed. The last player alive wins.
  • Assassination - A player is selected at random to be highlighted for a short period of time. While highlighted, opponents gain points for attacking them and a large bonus for wrecking them. The last player alive gains a large bonus, but the player with the most points overall wins.

Crash 'N' Burn is still online through GameSpy's normal online servers.

In Crash 'N' Burn, your primary objective is to take first place, and your secondary objective is to run everyone else off the road. Take your car to circuits in the back streets of Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York and cause major wreckage.

Vehicle customization creates your online identity as Crash 'N' Burn lets players fully customize their cars, with many options for paint schemes, rims & spoilers, fronts, etc., available to create just the right look. Car performance can be upgraded by changing out parts of the engine, tires, and nitrous kits.

Online tournaments can be played for fun or entry fees, depending on the host’s wishes.

Replay the mayhem with multi-angle player-controlled cameras set up throughout the courses.

In total, there are 36 tracks, 9 U.S. environments, and 4 Demolition Derby arenas spanning standard race courses, baseball stadiums, and Coliseum-like destruction arenas.

For those that don't own it, Crash 'N' Burn is $5.99 used at GameStop.

I have this game and couple of months ago we had PS2 party over here with 4 PS2 hooked up to the net and played Crash N' Burn all night. One of the best party-games to PS2. It also support headset. Give it a try for sure!

xCrI$TiAhNx is right, Crasn 'N' Burn appears to now be discontinued by GameSpy. It should be noted that at the time that this thread was created, the game was still working online.

Upon creating a new GameSpy ID Account, you receive this error message:
Crash 'N' Burn wrote:Login Error!

GameSpy is unavailable.

If, died this game and others (already going 6 of my list).
Since I've been testing one by one, and then communicate to all members of this community

But on this game, there will be a possibility of re enable? Because I have understood that there are packages to re enable it.

I know it's difficult, for the reason that you need to enter an account GameSpy ID, but there will be a possibility of re habilitation?
