The makers behind the Socom series and MAG have been shut down. No word is up if any of the members will move to different studios. I am not really sure what this means with the servers too but it is still sad to hear one of the longtime Sony Studios being shutdown.

Thats a shame. I loved ZIpper Interactive. Socom and Mag were amazing and I haven't played Unit 13 yet but I assume it is like Socom.

Unit 13 is not really like Socom, but none the less it was a great game, and it is a shame to see another good unique gaming developers get shut down because of a few bad launches. Zipper Interactive is sorry its not Call Of Duty...21SkAt3r21 wrote:Thats a shame. I loved ZIpper Interactive. Re: Sony Shuts Down Zipper Interactive
Sad to see a well respected developer from the PS2 area bite the dust.
These guys were on top of the world back in the early 2000's. The SOCOM games were absolutely massive and paved the way for games like Call of Duty today. The franchise peaked, IMO, with SOCOM II. Everyone was talking about that game back in 2003/early 2004. I have some fond memories of renting SOCOM II and jumping on with my Tribes clanmates from .exe.
The downfall of Zipper Interactive is a stark reminder that nothing lasts forever.

Gonna keep this brief so we don't go too offtopic: I'm not too interested in Ascend since it isn't by the original developers and it's a Free-2-Play game.teamR@@K!E wrote:So Mytho, have you played ascend yet and what do you think of it ?
On-topic: I wonder what the future of the SOCOM servers is. We're coming up to the 10th anniversary of the series this year. Maybe Sony was waiting until the anniversary to start shutting the servers down?

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs is the best shooter ever. The only game that comes close to beating it is Sniper Elite. Both of these great games set precedents for future games. People who have played them will understand perfectly.

Re: Sony Shuts Down Zipper Interactive
It is a shame, though it is only natural after making two games that failed to meet sales quotas and (at least for SOCOM 4) were universally panned.
