I believe the maximum number of racers in one game is 6. Sadly, the game does not support bots online to fill the empty spaces.

judging by what I've read you can have up to 8 people racing at the same time

if you go look at the game scheduling you'll see I've already posted to see who's interested in racing this Friday

I've not talked to my friend yet, i was going to see if he wanted to do a game before he went out

I'm hosting tribes between 7 and 8pm cst and

i was thinking of doing a race at 8:30 or 9pm cst this Friday

if you want to play, you have to enter a specific dns address in order to see each other
if you want to test it out sometime, i have free time between 1pm and 2pm cst Mon - Thursday
if you would like to play Friday leave a message in the game scheduling forum of my post

what time Saturday might work for you... to race that is
if that doesn't work because you don't have the right address then we could just go to area 51
anyway bobz address to play racing is 74.64.58.34 and if you try to use that address to play area 51 it won't work

you need auto connect to play area 51

you can save like 4 or so dns addresses on your ps2 memory card

im in london so timezone is regular gmt? !!!
i do have both the dns server address's saved to my memory card. (bobz / freddy)
i tried it last week - had a little trouble with the bobz one. the freddy dns seemed to work ok for me.
i am free pretty much all day sat, so any time you want is cool.

as for area 51, still waiting on delivery (never played it before, just wanted some more online games) £1.27 on ebay with p&p. In england ps2 games are super cheap!
