I'm using this setup with a Router without any problems. It's a Router with integrated modem.

Well you are lucky. I said what I said before because if your router does not have port 30000 open by default (most wont) then setting up with 2 network cards wont work, because the port Xlink Kai needs to be open in the first place isnt.

That sounds like the way to go. Now can someone tell me how to open that port and how to set a static IP adress?

I'll go and see to getting an YIM account set up.
http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm

There is a guide on how to setup a static ip address on your PC with windows XP.

Once you have done that go here http://portforward.com/

Choose your Router model (you can usually find it on the actual router)

Skip the advertisement by clicking to skip it at the top right.

Next, click on Xlink Kai in the list of programs to port foward for.

Now, it will guide you on how to port forward for your specific router and make Xlink Kai work. You only need to open one port in the router menu to your PC's static IP address and that is port 30000.

Ah, all done. I've set a static IP adress and opened that port. Now I've got to check that it all works...

Hmm, still telling me that the console isn't configured.

I see you are on xlink right now. I could help you trobleshoot for a little bit, but you need some type of instant messenger so I can get a hold of you. You can just use meebo.com to login to one if you dont want to download an instant messenger program.

Yes, it says that for me, too.

I'm going to setup another network configuration file on my PS3 in case the current one is wrong, see if that'll make it work.

Do I need to give my console a static IP too?

I dont know how people setup the network configuration on the ps3 to use xlink, but on PS2, you do not need to setup a static IP on the ps2. You simply use the automatically configured network setup.
