I think they were 2 (Matt and another player), but Matt will be able to tell us more.
The game is still playable online, aswell as SWBF2.
I played Star Wars Battlefront 1 last February with another player (proof on video at 2:28) :

I have SWBF 2 so I might just buy the first one just to have it. That way if there is another event at some point I can join.
