SWBF2 Alternate Server for the PC, ps2 possible?

Post by jacobgrocks »

So, GameSpy going down on the PC (and the GameSpy Powered Nintendo WFC shutdown) has resulted in many game communities either switching to OpenSpy, or for games that it doesn't support yet, has resulted in private servers being coded (or developers porting their games over to SteamWorks). However, someone has coded a master server for the PC version (which is similar when it comes to online), and this might possibly work with the PS2 as well:
http://gameshare.co/gamemaster
http://steamcommunity.com/app/6060/disc ... 818497982/
It's not really different but Openspy does not offer Battlefront 2 Masterserver atm - and our Solution is directly for Battlefront II - you don't need to change anything except adding a new executable. Thats the easiest way for player to play online.

To add the fix for yourself just search and replace with an hex editor:
Find:
%s.ms%d.gamespy.com
Change to:
%s%d.gameshare.info
Find:
%s.master.gamespy.com
Change to:
%s.gameshare.info0000
Find:
%s.available.gamespy.com
Change to:
%s.gameshare.info0000000

You need to add "nulls" for each "0" in the hex code above. Then youre Server is good to go. I will add these fixes in the dedicated server file :)

If i can find the up address of the server, I can setup a dns server that would redirect you to GameMaster so you can test it out.

EDIT: I put up a preliminary redirect. Just use this DNS in your network config to try and connect:
209.141.37.208
